Where It Starts

From high altitudes in the beautiful Rift Valley of Kenya comes this gem of a coffee. Rift Valley is washed processed in a wet mill and after fermentation is sun-dried on raised beds until hitting perfect moisture content. Kenya is well known for producing fantastic coffees and Rift Valley embodies the best of the characteristics that built their reputation.

Why this coffee was selected

We chose Rift Valley because of the brewing versatility and balanced flavors that our customers have come to love. This is by far our most requested coffee and stands out as an espresso, brewed or steeped overnight in a press (our favorite!). Rest assured this will be an annual tradition for us.

Origin

This Kenyan fan-favorite comes from central Kenya in the Rift Valley region. High elevations, rich black volcanic soil and high-quality cooperatives deliver a fantastic coffee with a subtle sweetness from the natural sugars present from the growing process.

What makes it different

Rift Valley beans come from carefully picked cherries from small farms across the region to ensure optimal ripeness and then are expertly washed and fermented. They are then sun-dried to perfection on raised beds. The process leads to excellent flavor development of fruit and chocolatey notes.

The people behind it

Rift Valley comes from many small farms across the Kiambu and Kirinyaga counties in Kenya, many with a few hundred trees. Farmer co-ops then partner to aid in processing and ensuring high quality standards and lot tracing. Kenyan coffee has a reputation for high quality and Rift Valley represents the best of what the region has to offer.

Roaster's Notes

Rift Valley is super versatile for all brewing methods. It makes a nicely balanced espresso, is fantastic in pour overs and compliments more complex coffee beverages well. I really enjoy this coffee steeped overnight at room temp in a press. It is just packed with balanced notes and brings out all of the natural flavors in the bean oils.
